  • I can't get videos to function in my Ubuntu OS. I have to boot into Mac OS X to watch them =/

  • There's a guide to installing "Restricted Formats" for video and audio here: help dot ubuntu dot com slash community slash RestrictedFormats

  • Were you being sarcastic all throughout the video, or just the last part? Either way, for using sarcasm, you rule! =D

Well... I wouldn't get Linux. Basically because I've used Windows all my life and can screw up its system and back with no worries, whereas if I try this on another system I'll probably get sued by my parents. XD

Brittishhh. Acceeentt. Was nice to listen too. Found it soothing.

  • Linux gives better performance on older hardware. If you don't have confidence (or permission!) to install it on your main PC, get a second-hand PC. 800Mhz with 512MB RAM & 20GB HDD will run most Linux versions ("distros"), and there are special ones such as Xubuntu designed for older/slower hardware. That way, you can build up your confidence and experience without worry. Paying the Windows licence fee (and Microsoft Word, anti-virus) is OK when Daddy is paying- but when you move out..?

  • Linux pwns windows. This guy is using a basic linux build. Ubuntu is the best for Linux newbies. /w crossover, windows office and adobe apps work just fine. Linux uses 1/4 the memory of windows and doesn't require much from a cpu, and 512 ram will let it run without hickups.

  • ArchTymeWizard is right about it being a basic build. I specifically wanted to avoid "bloat"; avoid installing stuff I'd never use. What I did was install the bare minimum Ubuntu Server package, then gradually installed the desktop components I wanted.
