The importance of getting the correct SID in your 9-5. Not all SID's speak the same "language". Saab used the same SID's for model years '98-'01, one SID for all '02's, one for all '03's, and one updated unit for all '04-'05 models.

  • Well since I did an Aero engine swap from a 2000 Aero to a 99 LPT I've had the "Check Brake Light" warning come up EVERY start. I"m thinking it must have something to do with the new ECU. Possibly it's the wiring harness that had to be moved as well. Very strange how different components on the Saab are interrelated.

  • @nathanthepilot That would be due to the ECU's programming. The default Test Brake Light on startup can be disabled with a Tech II tool. It's similar to wheel size settings. And just to put this out there, since I didn't mention it in the video, all '98-'01 SID's are the same. '02 & '03 have their own SID's and all '04&'05 SID's are the same.

  • Darn. I was going to swap out my 99 perfect pixel SID for the 2003 one that isn't quite there. I guess I won't be doing that now! This probably could be fixed with a Tech II programing from the dealer or an indy mechanic. I know my ACC controller needed to be programmed for the 2.3 vs the 3.0 V6 that is came out of. Good to know.

  • @nathanthepilot Nope, sadly, a TechII can not adapt the various SID's from year to year. My Saab dealer installed an '02 SID into my '03 and had no idea why my MIL and Trans fault light was on, and the steering wheel buttons didn't work. Once they figured it out, they tried to fiddle with it via TechII, to no avail. It's covered in the Saab WIS.

  • That's weird! I never knew they would do that with the wrong SID.

  • @jrodigan5 Hey Jared! Yep. Several different SID's out there. You must get the correct SID for your model year. There is absolutely no way around it. Not even rewiring the pins on the SID. You risk frying the DICE/TWICE/ECU/TCU.

  • Actually I think it says "brake light failure,'' but maybe you're right. It might be correctable with a Tech II.
