Call It Sleep is the first visual work produced in the United States which makes use of the situationist technique of detournement - the devaluation and reuse of present and past cultural production to form a superior theoretical and practical unity.

This is not as good as "The Society of the Spectacle" by Guy Debord, but still has many important points from the american perspective. it is a VHS rip, a little poor quality, but still. Here it is. Enjoy...

  • when some pop song is played in a video, iTunes knows and lets you know, too. when erik satie's "gymnopedies" (probably the ciccolini version) is played (3:30), it doesn't care.

  • crap, this is like attending the Forum, all your games and stratgies are laid bare...

  • As a fellow cadre-person, I agree.

  • One goes along to get along, but is that living or is that survival? There is quite a difference if you think about it...

One isn't necessarily compelled to contemplate the banal, I'm not sure what you're referring to on this point. Be careful to assume we have cell phone bills, I most certainly do not.

I'd argue against any middle path theories, our lives are at stake and it's really a tension, an occult attack on our psyches and physical bodies.

  • if you can say that much, surely you are seeing something. For me, the fast past of modern life rather demands that e go along to get along. If you really stopped to thinka bout your breakfast and your shoes, you might never leave the house, then how could you afford to pay your cell phone bill? It's a massive pile-up. There's a middle path, one that includes desserts, largely because we are not really held accountable on a moment by moment basis...

  • Is the Cadré an original SI concept, or did it come around after the SI disbanded?

  • Detourn Teewillis..Detourn

  • I'd say "we" can't see that we're slaves because our brains have been colonized by the spectacle.

  • action without theory is as bad as theory without action

  • I don't see the point in this video. Maybe I should see the whole thing. The question is, is it really that bad/wrong to be cadre? I don't think I am, but maybe that thought automatically turns me into cadre. I sincerely don't care that much.
