A tiny sketchbook said to have belonged to the Dutch master painter Vincent Van Gogh has surfaced in the Greek capital Athens.
The note book, containing drawings resembling several of Van Gogh's masterpieces, fell into Greek hands at the end of the second world war after being liberated from a train containing art treasures stolen by the Nazis.
The book's owner has given Malcolm Brabant an exclusive look at what may be a priceless discovery.

  • As you can see the sketches are from different dates and areas, the possibility of having Vincent van Gogh keeping a note book from his youth, with such a different period of time is out of the question. As lines, are to controlled and all done in the same copy style [that alone is not Vincent] I can only assume that it is a NAZI period fake or the Nazis found it in the hands of A Greek or Greek-Jew who studied his work from Art books before the War.

  • The theory which the art historian Athanasio Celia believes is that this a personal notebook which Vincent kept throughout his career with the intention of giving it away as a gift.

I am anything but an art expert, which is why I have left open the question of its authenticity.

Anyway, watch this space for a new story relating to the raid on the Nazi train....and another piece of art that I have been allowed to film.

    best wishes,

    Malcolm

  • Some people seem to have neglected the term 'studies' in previous comments. I have old artwork that's horrible, but occasionally I go back to it and say "well it was a cool idea, let me make this look better" and I'll make a much better version of it. This was more than reasonable with Van Gogh. But I am unable to make an educated enough responce on whether or not I feel these sketches are authentic or not.

  • hahaha, the drawings are so fucking fake they arnt even good fakes, and a picture of pere tanguy next to potato eaters studies, no way, that was years apart. fucking laughable.

  • Original sketchbook (notebook) of Vincent van Gogh is probably another NAZI war lie or just an Artistic Nazi Officer studying an Art book or trying to make dirty money; The Head of the Peasant Woman would have to be dated 1884/5 and made in Nuenen, while the sketch of Pere Tanguy would be dated 1887 made in Paris, and the cut ear sketch is done I guess just after his 2 paintings made in Arles in January 1889 a year before his death.
