The Double Bayou Dance Hall and the Jackson Grocery are located in the small black community of Double Bayou in Chambers County, sixty miles east of Houston. This video is dedicated to the memory of Pete Mayes and Billie Dietz. It was through Art and Billie Dietz that we learned about the Double Bayou Dance Hall.

  • Thank you. You comment reminded me that I had put this together after Pete passed away. Hurricane Rita made a mass of the old Double Bayou Dance Hall, so I was please to have made it over there a few times.

  • I spend many weekends a year in DB...I like to fish in Trinity and East Galveston Bay. I have passed this Dance Hall and Jackson Grocery literally hundreds of times, and never knew it was a distinguished House of the Blues.

There needs to be a Historical Marker placed on the Properties.

Thanks for Posting this...Cool Song BTW....

  • A very nice tribute to a little known bluesman. I like the way it worked from the album pics. I never made it to DB, but I saw Pete a few times in Houston, Big Easy I think..

    Thanks for posting.
