Gospel Masses with Father Jerome LeDoux and with Leon Vaughn's Gospel Singer (US)
Sunday 29 June, 2008
Thursday 3 July, 2008
at 18.30, Chiesa del Collegio Papio
during the New Orleans & Classics Jazz Festival of Ascona, Ticino, Switzerland
In the picturesque backdrop of Ascona's Church of Collegio Papio (rich with marvelous frescoes of the XV century), the charismatic Father Jerôme LeDoux returns to officiate at a gospel mass, this year with the participation of Leon Vaughn's Gospel Trio. The mass is being held again by public demand, after the enormous emotion that it evoked last year. To satisfy the greatest number of The Faithful and The Impassioned, there will be two masses, held Sunday, June 29 (the day of San Pietro and Paolo, patron saints of Ascona) and again on Thursday, July 3. During the concerts, there will be a collection to support the SOS New Orleans Jazz Heritage Fund, launched by the festival directors.
Father LeDoux is protagonist of the film "Shake the Devil Off" which will be shown at the Theatre Teatro del Gatto Monday June 30 and Tuesday, July 1 (at 7 pm) in the presence of LeDoux himself and U.S./Geneva-based director, Peter Entell. Filmed six months post-Katrina, the film documents resistance expressed by musicians and local population to the decision by the archdiocese to close the historic parish of St.Augustine, of which Father LeDoux was for years the charismatic spiritual guide.

Wonder what Ignatius of Antioch or Justin Martyr would say? This is the faith that they were willing to die for? This is the Mystery of the Altar?? I am starting to think Vatican II lost its way. I don't want to go back to the Tridentine Mass but more solemnity and respect. There was suppose to be Latin and Chant mixed in with English. It was suppose to make the mass more accessible to the people not a free for all. I go to the Eastern Church now and our Liturgy goes to the real meaning.

Merci beaucoup por cette video...I knew Fr. LeDoux well in pre-Katrina New Orleans days as a personal and family friend. May the Lord bless him and keep him.
