  • Part 2 :) One of programs that is funded in Calgary is Hope Homes. It supports non-status youth (those that are not being protected by the child welfare system) in returning to school. These are kids who would not otherwise be able to attend school. They work hard for the privilege, knowing there are so many who would take their place if they lose their spot by skipping school or not following the rules. Many of them also work part time. I consider it an excellent investment in people.

  • My goodness Loretta - that's a little harsh. I've been homeless as a teenager (since the day before my 14th birthday). It was never something that I aspired to. I was not reluctant to leave because I was lazy. You've obviously never had to wonder when you would have an opportunity to eat next. I did go on to make something of my life, but if I'd had the kind of help from one of the programs funded by Raising the Roof, I might have avoided some of the pain. The street is no place for children.

  • @JeanetteSp I agree with the latter half of your comment.

  • It's so easy to say that these kids should learn to take care of themselves... It isn't their fault that they can't do things for themselves. not everyone has caring parents that planned to raise children, there are still "stupid" people that are careless and reckless that produce offspring only to abandon or use the kids for extra welfare money.

I hope your comment is a joke. Rob you of an enjoyable movie experience...who's sitting on their ass exactly? Sounds like you think homelessness is caused by laziness. This is the age of information. Educate yourself.

  • Im the guy at the end of the commercial :)

  • @TheBlackthorn66 IMO, lorettasmoot's point is there's many opportunities given to us here in Canada. #1 being the FREE education until high school. Youth in other countries aren't given this opportunity but they make the most of their life selling things like lei's, gum, candy so they can pay for school and eat.

People here forget that we're all supposed to value our lives and make something of it. Homeless youth should take control of their lives & succeed w/o burdening anyone in the process.

  • @lorettasmoot what if they had no family or no one at all to help them. what if u were homeless and on the streets, wouldn't u want some help to get you started.

  • Why should I be the one to recognize the potential in a homeless youth? They should see the potential in themselves and fix their own life. Instead of sitting on their asses in the cold, they should go make something of themselves and stop asking for other peoples' pity. It's bad enough that they clutter the streets, but to rob me of an enjoyable movie experience through ads like this before the movie has even started is just ludicrous.

  • Created by Leo Burnett Canada. Clear demonstration of the agency's brand conviction and brand purpose approach.
