Cool video of ESA's Ariane 5 rocket. I remember they built this for the canceled Hermes space shuttle but they adapted it for satellite hauling purposes.

  • No, it is an European project to major part French.

  • Of course my dear, Ariane is even funded by Canada too.

But you just can't say that "Ariane isn't a French rocket", because it's not true.

Ariane is a French project with european and canadian cooperation.

It's not that easy, thrust chambers and injector heads for Vulcain and HM7 are manufactored in Germany (Ottobrunn) as are the booster casings and the second stages (Bremen). Turbo pumps are made in France and Italy, nozzles are from sweden and the payload fairings from switzerland.

  • Arians rockets are so cool

  • Nothing canadian in Ariane sorry !

Ariane is more than 65 % french , Vulcan motors are realised in France , boosters also inspired by intercontinental nuclear missile launched by snle , equipment case also for exemple .

  • @telemnor

France built the second stage of the Europa rocket. The stage was derived from the Diamond, AFAIK.

  • @blablubb12345 @blablubb12345 the Europa rockets were not of french initiative, but british. The french had their own space program (just search for "diamant rockets" on Google).

But you are true about Ariane being a european program. French are an important part of it and provide the spaceport, but without the others they could have done nothing.

  • @Tokopol

Well, about 60% is far from being completly french. French initiative? Sure, but without Germany, for example, there would be no Ariane program. Just do some research on the Ariane heritage and it's ill fated predescessor, the Europa rocket. In other words...Ariane is European, deal with it.

  • People are so idiotic with their ultra-literalism.

Ariane is obviously not 10,000% French to every nut, bolt, and fleck of paint. However, that doesn't mean it can never ever be called French -- and those if us who call it French (which it is) aren't trying to provoke a retarded barrage of semantic hair-splitting about what percentage the rest of Europe contributes to a French initiative.

In other words... Ariane is French. Deal with it.

  • France has a 60% share in Ariane and launches take place from French Guiana, but parts of it are built all over Europe. Without the expertise of the ESA, France could not pull it off alone. Engineering experience from ESA (to which France is the largest contributor with 23%, closely followed by Germany with 22%) was crucial in the design and construction of the project.
