Sorrel-Weed Ghost Hunters Tour

This is from my September 25, 2009 Ghost Hunters tour of the Sorrel-Weed House in Savannah. The home has been beautifully restored and has a scandalous past. Francis Sorrel came to the US from Hispaniola. He left his country just before a slave revolt broke in 1793. His mother was of half French and Haitian heritage. Francis denied his Haitian heritage and it is said that his mothers family placed a voodoo curse on him when he left. He married Lucinda Moxley and had 2 children. She was found dead at the age of 29 from the Yellow Fever. He then married her sister, Matilda with whom he had 8 more children. As did many wealthy families of the time, the Sorrel family has slaves that worked for them. Francis had a romantic relationship with one of the slaves, Molly. When Matilda caught Francis and Molly together, she committed suicide by jumping head first into the courtyard. Two short weeks after her suicide, Molly was found hanging dead in her room. The original explanation was that Molly, overcome with grief and shame from her affair subsequent suicide of Matilda, committed suicide herself. Though many believed Molly's death was the result of her own doing, the scene offered little evidence to support it. Apparently, there was nothing nearby that Molly would have stood on in order to hang herself. The Ghost Hunters crew investigated the Sorrel-Weed home in 2005 and captured an EVP from the carriage house that reveals a female voice shouting "...NO!... STOP!...HELP!...OH MY GOD!..." It is now believed that one of Matildas' children hired someone to murder Molly. Whatever the case, the Sorrel-Weed house still holds the memory of the events that took place and those memories are heard by many that tour this home. My experience was great and I plan to return to see what else I can document!

@wdharvey1- this is a very real possibility that I have since considered. This was the first "hunt" I've done and I've gotten more particular about possible outside contamination! I've been back to the Sorrel-Weed numerous times and have gotten nothing. Either the spirits don't want to commune ore I've gotten better at discerning fact from fiction! Thanks fot the post!

@1epicperson- The oddest pics are the ones with the black shadows- I did everything I could to reproduce them but I haven't been able to. I've done a few other ghost hunts and have never photographed anything like it since.

I would love to see it. I've tried to debunk them on my own but I have not been able to. The shadow over Lee- thought it may have been a shadow cast from the chandelier but I haven't been able to duplicate it on subsequent visits. The one in the rafters-thought it may be my finger over the flash but I haven't been able to reproduce the effect by covering the flash or lense. Can't wait to see yours!

Perhaps the scream you heard was from the street, which is no more than 20 feet from any wall in that building. I've been in that house, BEFORE it became "haunted" (quite suddenly, it became haunted...it sat for years and all of a sudden it's haunted...WOW)...

@ciapalajm well i did the same thing in the green room and failed at trying to get other ones. Now the most phenonimal thing was that when The Ghost Hunters came and they caught the 3 orbs in the row i have that same picture like that and it looks like a body in it. So me and my mom r gonna send some to Ghost Hunters and see if this is real Ghost trying to communate with me

i went on the ghost tour in savannah,Ga but i had one of the most creppiest first hand accounter with matilda. I was listening to the tour guide and i happened to hear her voice; but i couldnt make out what she was saying. I looked behind me and i saw nothing but my mom tooked pictures and right where matilda fell to her death a white mist was in the picture...Let's just say i wanted to stay and get more evps and pictures. :)
