People you have to ask yourself why has almost every civilized nation in the world abolished FLOGGING (caning)? There have been various means of torture used in punishments such as: the rack, sleep deprivation, burning, electric shock, Flogging (caning) or whipping people. But civilised societies have moved past this as the Swiss President told Singapore president. Globally No country views this as positive and Singapore has become a pariah in todays world.

@sandye2100 Some locals are for this (they call it harsh) punishment when in fact it is legalized brutality and physical violence used against human beings (men). More and more see the wrong in this treatment as one would not treat an animal in such a way. The entire caning ritual is sadomasochistic whereby homosexual and or sadistic guards enjoy beating men in this way. Do you need to hear any more about cruel and inhumane treatment? Exposing these atrocities continues.

@iamamathfreak These Floggings are not imposed on women by law which is of course gender (sex) discrimination. Almost every civilised country in the world, with the exception of a few third world middle eastern nations such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, and a few asian nations (Singapore is one) commit these crimes against humanity that is against United Nations statutes on cruel and inhuman punishment and is condemned by international human rights groups as Torture.

@iamamathfreak Sometimes I cannot believe that locals are either so ignorant of the injustice that lurks around them, or are so completely apathetic that they block out what is happening. For decades every week in Singapore prisons males are subjected to court ordered sadistic beatings for many things from immigration issues to non violent crimes (you have heard of Oliver Fricker) to major offences committed. This brutality causes physical injury and permanent scarring and mutilation.
