The Lifesaving Award, given to the public safety official/unit in recognition of acts taken in a life-threatening situation where an individuals life is in jeopardy, either medically or physically, was awarded to Officer Eric Charron with the Gwinnett County Police Department. Officer Charron was off duty working out at a health club when a man near him exercising on an elliptical machine suddenly collapsed. After realizing the man did not have a pulse and was not breathing, Officer Charron immediately began CPR and instructed staff to call 911 and locate a defibulator. Upon the arrival of EMS, the man began to slightly breathe on his own. It was later determined that he suffered a massive heart attack and underwent bypass surgery and is now recovering.
