Clear Tesa 4104 tape has a textured surface that was suspected as the reason measurements of performance improvement failed when using clear tape. White tape, on the other hand, has a glossy surface and has been successfully used by three presons (http://www.deturbulator.org/participants.asp). Clear tape was used on the left wing and white was used on the right wing. If the glider yaws/banks left, it indicates that the texture of the surface of the clear tape is the problem.
