CloneZilla the Open Source free software is an imaging program similar to Norton Ghost. It is very fast and very reliable.

  • I'm having problem when restoring the image. I've done the disk to disk and partition to partition image. It works okay when restoring the image to the same hard disk (just for trying) but restoring to a different hard disk with the same model with no partition on it then it gives me invalid partition?

  • @migzbirdiez Clonezilla needs a partition to write to. I usually create 2 on the same drive. One for storing the images and the other for the OS.

  • I don't understand... in this video, after creating the image... then when you restarted it... it goes directly to Windows XP? Am I following it correctly?

  • @migzbirdiez It takes 15 minutes or more to create an image of windows and then another 15 minutes or more to restore that image.

  • Can we restore a Windows server to a completely different hardware (bare metal restore) using Clonezilla....

  • Yes...like any imaging program the hardware needs to be the same.

  • not sure that data being on a different partition than windows could be really be considered any kind of safe haven from malware...

  • The ratio will depend on type of files, however the compression is better than 50%. The time it takes to create and restore images will depend on the amount of data and the speed of the device used to store the data. I have seen speeds from 500MB to 3.5GB per minute. The resulting ISO can be burned using a CD burning program like Nero. There are several good YouTube videos on how to burn CDs from images.

  • it will restore all apps actually i wanted but

what will b ratio between image and original data?

how long it takes to restore and making image that is too important you did not mention i think its important

once we download it how to write cd that can boot without windows?

no one answers my questions .are they stupid

  • Yes it does save everything on the partition or drive, including pictures, videos, etc.

    Thanks for the question.
