  • Haven't seen this for ages, cheers for the upload! I think Unfuwain and Minster Son proved to be better than their performances here would suggest. Unfuwain went on to be 2nd to Mtoto in the King George and was then 4th in the Arc in front of Kahyasi and I don't think Minster Son was beaten again that season-went on to win the Gordon Stakes and then the St Leger beating the Oaks winner Diminuendo.

  • Was at the 1988 Derby, and I remember the announcement afterwards that this was the fastest since electronic timing was introduced, so quite a gallop!!

  • Great to see this again, one I managed to find. Thanks for posting

  • The 1st Derby I saw at Epsom. I dont think Pat Eddery rode a very good race he bustled his horse along but he wouldn't have won anyway.

  • Agree, not the best but very good nonetheless. I believe he broke the race record here, then won the Irish Derby despite getting a nasty gash in running. Unfuwain(7th) won at the Epsom spring meeting by 15l, and then won the Princess of Wales' by 15l at Newmarket in July. As you say, other decent performers in the race (Minster Son..)
