During my recent shop healing session, I realized I needed a better way to store my drills and chargers. This simple wall-hanging box did the trick. I also wanted to make the project fast and easy, so I decided to try out the DowelMax for the first time. The system is a breeze to use and produces strong reliable joints in just a fraction of the time it takes to create a traditional mortise and tenon.

Fee free to download the SketchUp Drawing for this project if you want to make your own. But I encourage you to use this as a starting point and build upon it. If I had more time and space, I definitely would have added a few drawers for additional storage. Also, be sure to check out the new Enduro-Var Water-Based Urethane I used on this project.

  • sorry if someone asked his already. whats the difference between using dowels, biscuits or dominoes? or maybe a better question is when shouldnt you use dowels, bisc, dom's?

  • @bmcc123 Well biscuits generally provide the weakest joint of all three. So for me, I only use biscuits for non-structure alignment or to reinforce miters. Dowels and dominos, on the other hand, are good for structural use as joinery.

  • I wish I had Your budget, to be able to make a project as small as this with wood as expensive as that:) Great Job though!

  • @cstaley39 Well technically, the budget is for the bigger projects. And the scrap is used to make these little things. :) I definitely would NOT have purchased this specifically to make a charging station.

  • this good, good, but I think the tool is worth a little high at 300 $, what is your opinion marc?

  • Yeah its a tough one. But if you look at it like a joinery system, as opposed to a doweling jig, its on par. So comparing it to things like the Domino or the FMT or WoodRat. Its something that's meant to be an all in one joinery solution. So its definitely expensive, but so are all those other joinery systems. Most times, I still make my joints the new old fashioned way (tablesaw and router).

  • That's a seriously nice jig.

  • @woodchippie - I noticed that no one has answered you. I wish I could be of help myself but I have never left a battery in the charger expept when pulgged in and charging. I would not have thought it would drain the battery though. It makes some sence and maybe some day I will try it out.

  • nice chevy truck... some day we can race them, your chevy 1500 vs my ford f150 :D

  • how much more scrap like that do you have? becouse i nearly dide when i saw what you used enough for two $3000 guitar couldyou sell me some??? please

  • @woodchippie

    i think it is everwhere

in latvia i ve the same problem

  • In the UK if we leave a battery in the charger and turn the power off it drains the battery back down. Don't you have that problem? Thanks Woodchippie
