On July 15, 2011, young men from Detroit took a major step toward transforming their lives by graduating from Goodwill's Flip the Script program. Former Michigan football coach, Lloyd Carr, congratulated the graduates. .

Former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr will deliver a motivational speech to the group shortly after the program begins. The program also featured remarks from "Flip the Script" directors, teachers and graduates.

All "Flip the Script" graduates are young men ages 16 to 30 from Detroit and elsewhere in Wayne County who entered the program four months ago seeking an opportunity to earn a job and generate positive change in their lives. Program participants often come from backgrounds that include addiction or abuse, dropping out of school, periods of homelessness, or trouble with the law.

To date, more than 800 Detroit men have graduated from the program, which was created to engage Detroit's young men in learning how to overcome devastating socio-economic circumstances and reconstruct their lives. Since its inception in 2003, more than 80 percent of "Flip the Script" graduates have engaged in meaningful career opportunities. Many find employment in construction, various building trades and related careers.

Participants in the 16-week individual transformation and career development program receive personal, social, spiritual and academic training to foster healthy personal development. They also take courses to enhance both soft and hard skills and receive employment placement assistance.

In 2011, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit is celebrating its 90th anniversary. In just the past two years of the organization's rich history, Goodwill Industries has placed more than 2,400 Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county individuals into new jobs and provided education, training and career assistance to thousands more in the region. Goodwill Industries is the only organization in Southeast Michigan solely dedicated to helping local individuals overcome challenges and secure employment.
