@Strawberry7Lynn actually the ventures recording was the one that was a hit. I was a kid but loved the sound of it issuing from the jukebox. it made me learn to play guitar, as all the ventures tunes did.

Oh, I was expecting this guy to be a guitarist, ha ha! Well, that's because: a). I hadn't previously heard of Bill Doggett, and: b). I'd previously only heard "the Ventures" version of the tune.
