The Survey Coordinator is a mid-level field supervisor. The primary responsibilities of this position are to supervise the survey crew, provide quality control on their survey data and ensure that the survey control points are properly and accurately set up for the program. The Survey coordinator is also responsible for managing the assets, such as vehicles and GPS survey equipment, assigned to the job that he is on. The Survey Coordinator reports to an Operations Supervisor in the company's head office.

The typical work rotation is 24 -28 days in the field with 7 -- 10 days off. The schedule is somewhat flexible to allow workers to plan their time off around their schedules at home. At certain times of the year (particularly Spring and Fall) when there is less work going on, a worker may be off 4 -- 6 weeks in a row. But more commonly, our workers will have 2 -- 3 weeks time off during the slower seasons. Longer breaks may be requested to accommodate planned vacations or travel. Many of our workers take 2 -- 3 months off after a busy winter to travel or just work on projects at home. At busier times of the year, workers may be requested to just take the minimum time off that they require and save up the rest to take during the slower seasons.

To advance into the position of Survey Coordinator, an employee must have between 2 and 5 years of Seismic Surveying experience. A diploma or degree in a related field (Geomatics or Survey Engineering) is not absolutely necessary, but can accelerate an employees rise into this position.

A Survey Coordinator must have a very good working knowledge of the Seismic Survey process, have above average computer skills and be very proficient with whatever brand of GPS survey equipment that the company uses.
