Billowing black smoke was first noticed from afar on 26th February 2010 at about 1530hrs. I was at the scene at about 1630hrs and saw perhaps the first of the few fire engines that were to arrive at the scene. There was an explosion and not long after that the building started to collapse.

KKIP factory destroyed
-------------------------------
Kota Kinabalu: A tyre recycling factory at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) suffered about RM6 million losses when the premise was razed at 4.15pm, Friday.
Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call from the security guard of the Sin Fatt Tyre Recycle Sdn Bhd, Kamarudin Bundu, 40, who saw smoke from the back of the factory.
Kamarudin said he initially tried to extinguish the blaze but strong wind hampered his efforts.
Nine engines from the Fire and Rescue Department with 100 personnel put up a valiant effort to control the fire from spreading. Personnel from the navy and Civil Defence Department also helped to put out the fire.
The factory has been in operation for six years.
