    I was actually just thinking about this, but it certainly wouldn't be future... You have to remember, Star Wars was not future, it was past... It even begins with "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

    I think we also have to realise that in the scene Marty says "are we back?" which implies that they werent going forward in time, but backwards. This means that the Star Wars reference is perfect. Stuart, Legendary work!
