Having a good store of survival goods means you don't have to make special trips to the store. If you've planned your food storage correctly you'll be able to pull out items that will make a good meal. It's also a good idea to practice with your survival equipment once in a while, just to make sure it works.
I plan to have a power failure day one of these weekends where I shutoff everything in the breaker box except for the refrigerator. That will help me determine what I'll need when a real power failure shows up. It won't be a perfect simulation of course because I'll be able to go to the store without fighting crowds of panic stricken people who are frantically grabbing up all the water and candles. The roads will also be clear and the traffic signals will be working. Not a perfect simulation but it's still worth doing.

  • OH NO IM OUT OF EGGS!

  • @Slash28ACR

    Ya, hokey I know.

These days I mix in some onions, canned cheese and tomato powder, it makes a tasty omlette.

  • Unique video.

Thanks. I never buy pancake mix anymore. I just keep this whole wheat pancake mix in a big mason jar. I turn on the stove, dump a little into a bowl and add water and a bit of olive oil, wait a moment for the pan to get hot and then start the pan cakes. There's no down side to it. It's cheaper than Bisquick, better for you, better tasting, doesn't give me heartburn like white flour pancakes do, and just as fast to prepare.

  • The preparedness lifestyle has a huge number of benefits and almost no disadvantages. The lifestyle is all about living a more practical life with less debt, less stress, and more of what makes life worth living. And as a bonus you're ready when the power goes out, ready for a loss of income due to a job loss or injury, so you're not as stressed out. My last debt is my home and I'll have that paid off by November. After that my expense will be about 900 a month with a take home pay of 4000/month

  • A good overview of the modern survivalist philosophy is available in episode 319 of the survival podcast. You can find it by googling this. . .

It's the second item in the results list. Fast forward to about 5:50 to get past the intro stuff and you'll be into the meat of the podcast.

As a coupon clipper, you're probably halfway to being a survivalist without even knowing it.

    Later!

  • I just go outside and squeeze a hen if I need eggs...lol. The 30+ dozen in the fridges probably negates the need for me to bother the chickens, though. Survivalist chickens!

  • Since I started back couponing I haven't had to spend one dime on non-food items. I get shampoo, deodrant, toiletries, paper towels, lotion, etc all free. Do you do couponing? It will save a lot on your grocery bill.

  • 5/5 and fav'd. :)

I agree and "Cudos" for walking the talk. "That's right: "Eat what you store & store what you eat."

  • And it's better to cook in the cold months... "That good warm kitchen feeling". :P
