First of all, your strategy sucks. That's partly why you're getting such a bad payout from Video Poker, which is usually one of the best games you can play in a casino, IF you learn to play correctly.
The second reason is because that particular machine has a bad pay table, only returning 7/5 for the Full House/Flush instead of the optimal 9/6. Find a better machine and learn how to play the game properly, and you'll have much better results.

I had a real bad habit of playing these 'video pickpocket' machines. I'd waste $80-$100 a night on occasion. How'd I stop? I moved out of Oregon!

Looks like you might be doing well if you were betting more and didn`t "double up"..Do they have the "Triple Ace" poker machines there? I`ve been playing video poker about 30 years and those particular machines seem to pay off the best of any game I`ve ever tried.
