An early Technicolor scene from Cecil B. DeMille's silent film classic King of Kings (1927). This 2 Strip Technicolor sequence must have really wowed audiences in 1927! It was rescued just in time before film decomposition destroyed it!

HB Warner plays Jesus Christ. The resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the basis for Easter in the Christian faith.

  • Great movie! It's hard to believe that the actor playing Jesus is the same one who played the poor old drunken pharmacist in "It's A Wonderful Life"! I read that after playing Jesus H. B. Warner got typecast into roles of the typical good guy, so he was delighted to be able to play the less-than-perfect pharmacist!

  • I know an actor likes to play various roles but I think the far greater challenge in acting is to portray a truly good man. It's far easier to play evil types.

  • The new soundtrack is excellent, where can I buy this?

  • Criterion has issued King of Kings (1927) in a two disc DVD set. You can purchase off Amazon.

  • Fantastic find! The white doves & gorgeous flowers were a perfect touch! The resurrection light through the stone "door" was a brilliant idea! The soldiers really played the scene as one might imagine, though never covered in other Jesus movies.

  • Masterpiece... Wonderful colour !!

  • This is one of the best RISEN scenes i have seen even by today's standards...the risen scenes of modern times are so short and unremarkable.....

  • Beautifully done!! And still quite powerful after so many years!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. It's a very moving, lovely sequence, and it still stirs the emotions 83 years after it was made...

  • I'm sure that audiences back in 1927 were astounded to see this scene played out in color. Of course, this is just two-strip color. Not like the Technicolor that is used in almost every movie today. Still, I'm sure audiences were like "WOW!"

  • Thank you for posting this Goldensilents....

  • Jesus was the most fascinating person who ever lived.
