I can't tell whether I'm hearing it "on" or "off" when the sound changes. Did they set it to boost? Os, did they set the pedal below unity gain?

Yeah, it's just set to a clean boost. It had a bit more drive than what's coming across in the video. It sounded GREAT, just want to see final aesthetics.
