I love Ilyushin :) boeings and airbusses are so typical these days, whats fun about them? theyre everywhere!! ilyushins and tupolevs are rare birds and makes it even more exciting and special to spot them :)  and the engine sound - priceless!!

I dont see to many Russian aircraft falling out of the sky due to poor engineering. If they do crash its usually due to pilot error and lax rules, not any fault of the quality of the airframes. The only place where the IL-96 may lack slightly behind the A-340 is in range due to SLIGHTLY more economical engines and slightly lower airframe weights. However, i'd like to see an A-340 take off from some of the airfields (if you want to call them that) the IL-96 can operate from.
