Volunteer abroad UBELONG: Matt, a UBELONG Campus Leader in Quito

Matt Gayer is a junior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He became a UBELONG Campus Leader in October 2011 and recently led a team of fourteen of his fellow classmates to Quito, Ecuador during their Spring Break. Members of the group worked across various projects, including caring for children in a public outdoor market, teaching English and family social work.

In addition to working closely with his UBELONG Mentor, Cedric Hodgeman, on the extensive pre-departure preparations, during the trip Matt helped facilitate the group's day to day activities and led daily team discussions. The trip was a great success and Matt is due praise for all of the work he did in terms of preparation, coordination and mentoring. He is a dynamic natural leader with a passion for service. We were thrilled to interview him on camera in Washington, DC upon his return from Quito.
