Fire burned down a Bartram Springs home located off Racetrack Rd & US1 South of Jacksonville on December 27th, 2010. Comments include that:

1. Nearest fire dept. is over 20 minutes away, so any house fire in our area will most likely burn down.

2. Insurance companies don't want to insure these homes because of #1. They are 'taking a big risk' by insuring them.

3. Possible cause of fire was the 'furnace' on the second floor (you can see the fire break through the roof in the center of the house, supposedly where the furnace was located?).

From across the street, I could feel the heat from this giant fire. Evidently the heat was so great that it also 'blew out' the next store neighbors windows.

  • Update on this video: The publicity and attention given as a result of the video put pressure on the local government to get a fire station within a short distance from our neighborhood.

No longer will our houses be burning down (knock on wood, or perhaps knock on fire-retardant particle board).

  • I am a retired Division Chief and can NEVER get used to seeing the destruction of a family home like this, very sobering to say the least.

  • @firebrigade101 at the start of this video, do you think these guys already knew the house was going to be totalled? or do they have to real-time assess as they walk in?

  • Home fire sprinkler system!

  • @yermawsafanny just killed the cat and dog, but i'm over it now.

  • I'm not sure if you noticed but uh... That house is on fire.

  • OMG it's terrible o.o

  • Amazing 'firenado' swirling off of this roof! Seems like an attic fire...sad to see.

  • Sad Comment: At least they saved the lot.

  • @liketrane Prior to moving in, it is important to assess the rate and movement of the fire to insure crew safety...coming in slowly is recommended over quick attack.

usually when the fire is this intense in the roof, you can be assured that not a large percentage will be salvageable ( it is really up to the scene command to assess. )

  • @liketrane I sure do
