I noticed a lot of people asking about these 2 guitar models so I thought i'd upload a short simple comparison to help people shopping round.

Basic simple clips to get a feel for the sound.

Completely flat EQ, no editing apart from some crappy video fades and text =]

Both guitars come with a hard case. The martin is all genuine mahogany, the guild is listed as mahogany also but it's really khaya or African mahogany.

Factory shipped strings on both guitars which at the time of the video were Martin SP .13 gauge for the D15 and Daddario phosphor bronze .12 gauge for the Guild.

I have my own opinions but this video is just to help people in the market looking for some a/b'ing to make up their own minds. Enjoy!

  • Blackbird, on the beach , Tell me why , These Days , what's the last?

  • @pouidg Just noodling around =]

  • was this one of the new martins with the fancy laminate neck to save on tonewoods that they just invented

  • @hanghang71 No, it's the now discontinued D - 15, all mahogany, rosewood fretboard & bridge. I think the one you're on about is the DRS1, it's what they replaced the road series with.

  • They both sound good, but the guild is the clear winner in this comparison... However...

I wonder about the strings used. I've owned a D15 for 9 years. I recently put on a set of Martin FX (flexible core) strings. They were horrendous. I got a strange, high-pitched feedback sound from them. Another commenter here described them as "ghost octaves". I'm hearing some of this sound from the D15 in your comparison. It's not nearly as pronounced as the traumatic experience I had, but I also t

  • @zmandell It was factory shipped strings on both, Martin SP .13 for the Martin and Daddario .12. Both sets were phosphor bronze. I'll add it to the vid description.

  • the martin sounds better to me. way more detailed and more open. the guild sounds a bit muffled - it's a great guitar though. and you have to admit that guild provides more guitar for your money.

  • @jpnoll Yup, they sure are, and I know it's hard to get past the stigma at first. But if you can keep an open mind, for the price they sure do sing and you're getting all solid wood/bone etc Build quality is pretty solid aswell, finish is a bit thick on the few i've played, but overall it's really hard to complain.

  • Guild man Martin sucks my 100$ guitar sounds better

  • sorry GUILD is better!

  • Martin D-15 better
