Dewirement (trolley poles come off from the wires resulting in power cut off) does happen sometimes , when it happens the driver needs to get behind the bus and re-attach the spring-loaded poles back onto the wires by manipulating the nylon ropes attached to the poles.

  • Are they too cheap to upgrade the wires and get new equipment? Here in Edmonton, dewirements don't happen that often. About 70% of the wires are new and upgraded. Sadly, Edmonton decided to scrap it's system by 2010.

  • It is the mindset and attitude of the Chinese leaders that need to be upgraded. The contact wires are poorly maintained in Shanghai, compounded by poorly maintained trolley poles, making dewirements a common sight. Thus, trolleybus has always been associated with words such as "backward", "slow" etc. Even the traffic police people don't like trolleybuses and think they contribute to slow traffic and sometimes congestions.

  • Just so you know, I'm a huge trolley fan, sadly living in the wrong city what are against them so that's why I'm moving.

  • Vancouver is great and bettr than Edmonton in many aspects! I suppose you will need to secure a job and sort out your housing issues before permanently moving over? I wish I could visit Vancouver in the near future but I'll never get to have a ride on the iconic red flyer trolleys again. They have been replaced by the newer ones with blue livery.

  • Once you've settled down in Vancouver, you could also visit cities like Seattle and San Francisco. There are lots of trolleybuses too. San Francisco's is the most interesting and exciting one with both trackless trolleys and streetcar networks in the city.

  • The future of the trolleybuses in Shanghai does not look bright either! The network has been shrinking since mid 90s and there are already lots of disused overhead wires hanging there in Shanghai. So, let's see what's gonna happen next. Edmonton is not alone in it.

  • That´s chinese quality overhead trolley wires. It reminds me state of wires in the Czech republic during the comunist establishment, when trolleybus transport was not preferred.

  • No seriously there are buses that are electric and don't need that wiring bull shit!!!!

  • if u call it stupid u r an ass hole

  • When you use "dats" instead of "that's", it is enough to rile me up. Learn English, child....

  • lol i live in vancouver and the new trolleys are awesome you should visit when u got the time!

  • Lot of the wires in Edmonton is already down! Since the decision to scrap the trolleys, the system went down by 20 trolleybuses. The trolleys are still operation in Edmonton right now, but just till 2010. The only reason Edmonton is scraping the system is because they think they can save $100 million by getting new buses instead of new trolleybuses. It's not like I'm living here in the future anyways, I'm going to Vancouver, the second biggest trolley system in North America.
