I'm not sure whether your very sensitive to nicotine or if I am very resistant to it but... I broke all of your rules when I started smoking it.
-first English blend
-almost empty stomach
-beginner pipe smoker
-Smoked to the bottom of a bent mcarthur.
It was one of the best smokes I have ever had. It is in fact second best only to a self made blend of mine. Yes it is strong, but not overwhelming. If I had to change it I would add a fair bit of perique.

Quick question for you PipeLawyer... are you inhaling? You mentioned exhaling. I don't inhale but can imagine that the tobacco flavor would take on a whole new dimension if done so. Don't think I would inhale but was just wondering.

Great review. I purchased my first tin of Nightcap today and I'm glad I chose a smaller bowl for sure! I pretty much deduced that one on my own... but definitely great advice. I have learned to enjoy some subtle aromatics and the English blends equally and it's so interesting how different they are. It's really like drinking wine I think... by discovering the world of scent, taste, aroma and feeling of all the various blends.

Class review. I loved that one of your favourite English blends prior to you trying Nightcap was Artisans which has been a favourite of mine for a long time, Old Dublin and Skiff in my opinion are up there with the aforementioned too though although rather lighter. True Nightcap has a nice Vitamine N level compared to other 'English' blends but I find it a comfortable level, especially if you've ever tried smoking any of the 'ropes' from G & H, now they are strong. Thanks again.

NIghtcap and Early Morning Pipe are truly the perfect pair. I personally have found.
Enjoy

@PipenFalzy See my comments @Jerexify, above. (I imagine you're still waiting for that nicotine hit)

@Jerexify Nightcap is around 50% Latakia, which doesn't have that much nicotine. It does have a full flavor, but that is different from the traditional use of the word "full" denoting nicotine content. (Gawith tobaccos use mild, med, full, in the traditional way) Nightcap is my all time favorite by the way.

@MrDoubtfulguest ...is also wonderful and full, but Bracken is in a league of it's own)

@2RevoWa Nightcap has been my favorite "all day" smoke for ages, (I have enough tins to last me the rest of my life!) but if you want to try something with a real KICK, get some Samuel Gawith "Bracken Flake, Rich & Dark." It used to only be available in bulk, but you can now get it in 50g tins. Look around, because Gawith U.S. distribution has been spotty for a while, but you should be able to find it. Do not smoke this on an empty stomach, it is that strong. (Gawith Full Virginia Flake...
Have you tried GL Pease's Blackpoint? If you enjoy sharp complexity, creaminess and perique, you may enjoy it. It's one of my favorites. But I prefer it with some cellar time on it to mellow the perique. Blackpoint seems to have a generous amount of Vitamin N as well. Thanks for the review of Nightcap. I have some on the way.

@rodmanprice I have tried Blackpoint and I love it. In fact, Nightcap to me is very reminiscent of it. Maybe after my tin of Nightcap mellows some more, I will like it as much. Charing cross is another favorite, although there is a subtle difference in sweetness about the two. Thanks for watching.
