No no, you are thinking in collective terms. Realize that each individual has their own agenda and understand that it was not the same people.
Those who created knowledge did so for their own needs and those who destroyed the knowledge created by other people did so many times because they used mysticism as a tool of control and governing and knowledge was a direct threat to their agenda.

ironically mostly by christians and later arabs, the very people who wanted understanding, destroyed the answers which they would then have to rediscover

Its not factual at all, i don't know if the host is being metaphorical at all! but Islamic Doctrines does not say that at all!
