  • I think it is the poor tape quality. The live recording she did in 1988 (I think) was FANTASTIC

  • The other recording, also by Norman, but with Seiji Ozawa conducting, has much better quality. See /watch?v=0lTQ_dxcyYE&NR=1

  • @vitellia Might be the tape quality... Listen carefully - the rest of the phrase tends to be lower too

  • Superb!

  • @GoldenAgeSunshine Its called acting! Not every great singer can do it.................

  • Of course it's vocally superb, but there is too much mannerism.

  • @SuperDrew72

Is it availaible on Metropolitan Opera's 25 th anniversary DVD/CD? out in 1996.

  • Astonishing ! So Sad no better version available

  • Wow, this is my FIRST TIME EVER seeing Jessye screw up! On an Ab, no less! Well, she sang a nice G instead... (2:26-2:30!!!) Still, everything else is the usual perfection.

  • Shes one of the few black opera singers her voice is like the ocean.. power and grace..
