Chris
Chris Childs (born November 20, 1967 in Bakersfield, California) is an American professional basketball player. He played his high school basketball at Foothill High School. A tough-minded ft 6 in guard who starred at Boise State University in the late 1980s, Childs went undrafted in the 1989 NBA Draft and began his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association. Childs played for five different teams in his first three seasons in the league, but he eventually found a home with the Quad City Thunder, with whom he won a league title and an MVP award in 1994 after averaging 17.9 points and 7.6 assists. His success in the minor leagues proved to be his ticket to the NBA, as he signed with the New Jersey Nets prior to the start of the 1994-95 NBA season. Childs spent his first two seasons in the NBA with the Nets, and he averaged an NBA career-high 12.8 points in 1995-96. However, Childs is perhaps best remembered for his five-year (1996--2001) tenure with the New York Knicks, who relied on his tight defense and streaky three-point shooting ability during their perennial runs to the NBA Playoffs. He led the team in assists (6.1 per game) as a starter during the 1996-97 season, and he was a valuable contributor off the bench during his next four years with the team. A visible figure in the New York media, he also represented the Knicks on the 1998-99 NBA All-Interview Team and won the New York Press Photographers Association's 2000 "Good Guy Award" for his involvement with several charities and youth basketball programs. In 2001, Childs was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Mark Jackson and Muggsy Bogues, with whom he played for one-and-a-half seasons before rejoining the Nets in 2002. Ward
Charlie Ward, Jr. (born October 12, 1970 in Thomasville, Georgia) is a retired American professional basketball player, college football Heisman Trophy winner and a Major League Baseball draftee. By some sports media and publications Ward has received recognition for being one of the best all around athletes of our time.Ward won the 1993 Heisman Trophy as a quarterback for Florida State University, and subsequently led the Seminoles to their first-ever National Championship when FSU defeated Nebraska 18-16 in the 1993 Orange Bowl.
Upon graduation, Ward stated he was undecided about professional basketball or football and made it clear that he would not consider playing in the NFL unless selected in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft. Because teams did not want to waste a first round pick on a player that might eventually choose the NBA, Ward was not selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. Instead of pursuing a career as a football player in the NFL, and having been chosen in the 1st round (26th overall) of the 1994 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, he began his career in the NBA as a point guard. An inquiry was made during Ward's rookie year with the Knicks to become the backup quarterback for Joe Montana of the Kansas City Chiefs, but Ward declined.

Ward played sparingly in his rookie year under head coach Pat Riley, but the Knicks organization referred to him as "the point guard of the future." When assistant coach Jeff Van Gundy took over the head coaching position, Ward's time on the floor began to increase, becoming the primary backup for point guard Derek Harper. During his NBA career, Ward established himself as a good three-point shooter, a reliable ball distributor, and a respected floor leader. Ward was selected to participate in the 1998 NBA All-Star three-point competition, finishing fourth in the event. He soon helped the Knicks reach the 1999 NBA Finals before falling to the San Antonio Spurs. Ward was traded to the Phoenix Suns in January 2004 as part of the blockbuster trade that brought Stephon Marbury to the Knicks and was promptly cut by the Suns for salary purposes. Ward spent the remainder of the season with the Spurs and signed a contract with the Houston Rockets the following summer. After maintaining relatively good health over his first decade in the league, injuries caused Ward to miss most of the 2004-05 season. Because of his injuries Ward retired.

  • Charlie Ward Block on Rik Smits = Priceless!!!

  • It is funny how things turn out. Stephon Marbury said that the Knicks would never win a championship with Charlie Ward. The Knicks never won a playoff game with Marbury Most players would rather play with Charie Ward than Stephon Marbury, although Marbury has more talent.

  • @oudabashian Childs didn't start much because he gave that role back to Ward. He was amazing in NJ, and when he signed for the Knicks, he realized that Charlie's role incredibly declined, so he told coach to give Charlie back his starting role.

  • @Mattcoster96 Oh yeah nice eh! Have you met Charlie's brother Chad? He coaches down there too.
