As we coordinated with other organizations and planned our next trip into the earthquake-devastated Haiti, the news came across the wire that the Haitian government was seizing aid going into the country at the Dominican/Haitian border. In trying to validate the information, we found that groups bringing aid are now required to have legal non-profit status in Haiti in order to transport any assistance into the country. The Haitian government says that people are bringing in goods under the guise of aid in order to sell them on the open market.
