Let Yourself Go Music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and featured in the Hollywood musical comedy film Follow The Fleet starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Irving Berlin, arguably the most successful ever composer of the popular song, produced some of the most memorable melodies the world has ever heard. Follow the Fleet is packed to the brim with great numbers including We Saw The Sea sung by Fred Astaire, Im Putting All My Eggs In One Basket a Fred & Ginger duet, Let Yourself Go sung by Ginger Rogers and Id Rather Lead the Band sung by Fred. Two beautiful numbers were also sung by co-star Harriet Hilliard But Where are You? and Get Thee Behind Me Satan, the later being banned by the British Board of film censors simply for using the word Satan in the lyric. For British film showings, the word Satan was badly edited out (hic!) much to the amusement of film audiences at the time. Follow the Fleet ends with the sublime Lets Face the Music and Dance.
The Footloose Dance Orchestra, on their recent North of England Tour, performs "Let Yourself Go a Fox-Trot with music written by Irving Berlin arranged for tonights performance by Jimmy Dale in 1936.
The FDO are dedicated to performing authentic music from the 1920/30s.
