An introduction on Carrara Multi-channel mixer shaders.

This type of shader might look confusing at first but it is actually very easy to use and allows for some very complex effects.

I compare them to audio mixing in the tutorial but a better example would be say these 3d surface shaders are more like layers and masks in Photoshop.

This tutorial was made using Carrara 8pro but the same can be done in the Standard and in earlier versions.

  • You have a real talent for tutorial production, man. Keep them coming. The Carrara community is starving for content like this. You should contact Daz and pitch this to them. I think videos like this, posted in a tutorial section on Daz's site, would get a lot of people more interested in the software.

  • @Chazdogg89 Thank you very much. I enjoy making them.

It looks like Daz has been adding more tutorials to their YouTube channel like the excellent ones Carnite made for Daz Studio. I agree with you that they would probably benefit from having some tutorials prominently posted on their website... maybe even linked from the purchase page just to give new users the basics.

I'm not very good at pitching such ideas but I wouldn't say no if they asked hehe.

  • @Chazdogg89 couldn't have said it better. As always your tutorials are amazing and very easy to follow. Thank you for taking the time! (BTW that blue door was sooo a Tardis door lol)

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial! I've been trying to figure this out FOREVER!! <3's

  • Thanks William - you, DT, Cripeman, 3dAge (I'm sure I'll forget others) really are the best friends the Carrara folks have. You do have a great presentation style and you should be less modest! :-)

  • I'm surprised there aren't more likes on this. It must have taken a while to make this one. Daz3D hire you yet? This is as good if not better than some of their presentations.

  • this is fun stuff, when I get bored, I use my AVI videos as texture maps on Daz/Poser figures and just have them dance around, I have been playing around some of the noise, spots and other mixers to texture planes to save as jpgs for external texture maps too! ie wood paneling for my sketchup models or a bump map for a lettuce I modelled.
