where does the salt go? in the video it says it stays on the mesh, so the salt will build up and restrict air flow.

Actually, one can use more seawater to flush the excessive salt away. It is an easy way to regulate the build-up of salt. I have some pictures of this type of installation which Charlie Paton gave me which shows a buildup in a Seawater Greenhouse application, which was subsequently flushed away with more seawater.

At 5:33 when he says "an un-ending supply of freshwater", what about when sea water runs out in millions of years what will happen then?

It can't run out, matter is constant since the beginning of times, the quantity of water hasn't decreased, the quality of it has, that's why we'll be struggling for water

"what about when sea water runs out in millions of years what will happen then? "

It will be replenished by the fresh water we've used and flushed as sewage.

Dear trudy
Yes, it is true that you will need energy to pump the water. However this is less energy than what would be used if you desalinated using RO or other conventional methods. With regards to the salt, this does not need to happen if constructed correctly. The Seawater Greenhouse is built on the same technology and does not suffer from salt coating problems. The salt only covers the evaporators and they are covered by seawater anyway.

You do need fuel to pump the water. Also as someone who lives near the sea, I can tell you that things get coated in a thin layer of salt, enough to contaminate the fresh water this produces due to the warm sea air blowing thru the device, it would seem.
