http://sharonkiller.com SAN ANTONIO -- The trial of a Texas judge who closed her court before a death row inmate could file a last-minute appeal is under way.

Judge Sharon Keller appeared in a courtroom at the Bexar County Courthouse on Monday nearly two years after convicted killer Michael Wayne Richard was executed. The presiding judge of the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals faces five charges of judicial misconduct that could be career-ending.

Keller refused to keep her court open late in September 2007 while Richard's lawyers scrambled to file a final appeal. The filing never got to the court, and Richard was executed hours later.
Scott Cobb was among several death penalty opponents who protested in front of the courthouse and watched the trial.

"We want a decent, ethical law abiding judge. Not one who's going to break the rules like Sharon Keller," Cobb said.
