Hehe--he was indeed in fine, confident voice this nite! So much for opera "experts" who said Neapolitan songs "must be sung in full voice", and "men singers couldn't trill"! Pava proved them wrong in one single song!!--I bet people learned really quickly not to tell Luciano he couldn't---or must--do things! (;

when my buddys and i are drunk we put on some pavarotti and start singing in his back yard. at the time we think we sound just like this but then we watch the videos taken by my buddys brother and its pretty bad.... lol

Just listen to the trill at 2:15 through 2:19, then watch the shrug at 2:23 as if to say, "Yeah, I guess that wasn't too bad." It was one of those concerts where everything was just right. What memories.

As I write this comment it occurs to me that it was 20 years ago tonight that this GREAT concert aired. As a matter of fact, almost at this moment I would have been enjoying this very encore (towards the end of the program at around 11:00 Eastern). I have long admired Pavarotti as a serious artist (before all the crappy, over-hyped mega-concerts), but there was something absolutely and uniquely magical about this night. He was in easy, free, wonderful voice, and he confidently KNEW it.
