Rescued Shiba Inu with Hypothyroidism having seizure

I rescued this older Shiba Inu from the animal shelter just hours before he was going to be put down, with the help of Grateful Dog Rescue of San Francisco. He was later diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and here he is having a seizure due to the disease. I'm happy to report that he is now doing well under medication and has lost 20 lbs., going from 51 to 31 lbs.

Hello my shiba is having sesures like this. He is not overweight . That medications is he taking? Thank you

@tenniseme Hi, the medication he is taking to control his seizures is Potassium Bromide. After taking it for awhile, a blood test will need to be taken to determine if the dosage is correct. Potassium Bromide will make him thirsty so lots of fresh water should be available. Once I got a prescription I ordered it online. He takes one pill a day and it cost 44 cents a day for a 800mg pill. Thanks for posting this. My female Shiba (hypothyroid but treated) had a seizure for the first time today, and it looked very much like this--helped me realize that what was happening, was, indeed, a seizure. My vet has suggested pheno-barbitol for now. Thanks again,though--this is very helpful
