The Fruit Machine (US title Wonderland) was a film made in 1988 by Granada Productions. It was written by Frank Clarke and directed by Phillip Saville. The chip shows trained dolphins from the Flamingo Land Zoo in Yorkshire although the story has the animals located at Wonderland a fictitious aquarium in British seaside resort of Brighton. The external locations and some night shots of aquaria in the film did used the then Brighton Aquarium and Dolphinarium which is now The Brighton Sealife Centre. The dolphins featured Lotty, Betty and Sharky are still alive and well and are now based in European aquaria after been relocated from Flamingoland in 1993.

  • @elshowgun15: that was Emile Charles - brother of actor Craig Charles of 'Red Dwarf' fame.

  • The film is actually now on DVD and you can get it from Amazon in the UK.

  • Yes quite a lot of dolphins in the movie on the DVD.

  • I love this film so much...im looking for the cd? anyone have this? I still have the video and now dvd thankfully i adore the acting and messages in this wonderful production.....Local lad to the film to as it was filmed over the water in Liverpool. x
