Performed at "Dove-tail" in Osaka, 2002.
Guitar : Alvarez Yairi (borrowed one).

This is classic rag by Scott Joplin & Scott Hayden.
I arranged it for the guitar in "Otarunay Tuning", EbAbCFCEb.

  • very, very good *****5

  • Thank you!

  • Wow! That was just spectacular. I tried teaching myself ragtime on the guitar when I was in my teens but never could get the knack. You are truly a master at the craft!Simply wonderful to hear.

  • Thank you very much.

My "Otarunay tuning" probably seems weird (EbAbCFCEb) but I think it is confortable to arrange ragtime in Ab-Db key.

  • good job, man. guitar arrangements of joplin's songs are damn hard, but you're up to it! in the last part of the song, maybe you could put some less strength. but it's just an insight.

  • Thank you for your comment.

Yes, I agree I had better relaxed to play it.

Also I have found some mistakes, not only because it is difficult to play buy also because I was so excited at that time.

Well, I am in the habit of shaking my head when excited!

  • I heard about DTR going to Japan. I wonder, though, how Japan would react to a more period-authentic, bombastic player like Tom Brier or Adam Swanson -- or the technical virtuosity of Frederick Hodges...

  • Thank you for your kind words.

In 2006, I invited David Thomas Roberts to Japan and held 6 concerts.

I have dreamed such a occation for several years, and my dream came true.

Now I have no funds to plan big concerts nor tours across the countries, but I dream someday it will come true again.

  • Sounds logical and is a darn good idea!

    Now for the funding?

  • I've been saying for about 10 years that somebody has got to arrange to have Takashi come to play at one of the big ragtime festivals in the U.S.

If I were better at figuring out budgets and promotion etc., I would also want to get the best U.S. ragtimers playing in Japan. Maybe it's my imagination, but I think the average Japanese person is more likely to be interested in hearing ragtime than the average American, so I think there would be an audience for such a thing, easily.
