Personally I agree that birds aren't the best of pets, however when I was in highschool I had a cocktiel and he would usually spend 8+ hours a day out of his cage, going in only whenever I went to sleep or if it was too cold to leave my cat out all day (my cat loved going outside for her entire time while awake and would come inside to use the bathroom or sleep...) I hate seeing animals in a cage, but some need it to stay safe (small domestic rodents.)
I agree, it's cruel to keep them in such small cages, and I, personally, would give a bird time to spread it's wings free in the house. But I don't like birds. I keep my rats, and they get free run except when I am away or in bed.
I totally agree- I am In the same situation and ask myself the same question- WHY? WHYYYY?
WHAT is wrong with people? I mean having a bird in a cage like a small prison is enjoyable to watch? I want to move so badly I hate to see this everyday
@beyondtransience i wonder whats worse, knowing freedom and have it taken away by being captured, or never knowing freedom at all and be born into a cage?
I couldn't agree with you more with what you're saying. People say things like, "My parrot is happy, I look after it and it can still walk around"... I don't care what anyone says, no wing clipped life in a house can replace flying free in the open sky. People that keep birds as pets don't understand this basic thing. It's like putting a butterfly in a jar to watch it... Why not just appreciate it in its own environment, free, doing what it was born to do.

Houses are just big cages.

@tomenglish69 Well, killing for food is perfectly justified, so who cares?
