@OperaMystery80 You are right about the sopranos of today. I did prefer Tebaldi in Aida because her firm tone and her perfect diction and her beautiful phrasing.
She had italian bites in her singing which Price did not have, it does not mean that
Price is no good. They are no more great italian singers today, it is all gone.
@tebaldicallas But she would have to put on black makeup and skin paint to play the Ethiopian character of Aida. Leontyne Price was black and considered a supremely talented Verdi spinto soprano who could sing not only Aida, but both Leonoras in Trovatore and Forza del Destino, as well as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, she was as Italian-Verdi soprano as Renata. We can at least agree that both Renata and Leontyne are better than the awful sopranos singing Verdi opera today.
I have mixed feelings about this Aida; Sophia Loren in black body paint as Aida doesn't seem right. There are cuts to the music and singing especially at the end of Act 2 (the Triumphal March). The sets and costumes are grand and lavish, Tebaldi's recorded singing is fabulous but I wish they had done this Aida later on a bigger budget with Leontyne Price as Aida and Grace Bumbry as Amneris. That would have been spectacular!!

Tebaldi was a better Aida than Price - better diction, italian bites, warmer voice and voice
bigger than Price.
