@PurePerfection You can "blend with the crowd" if you are already outstanding... but is much harder to do it the other way.

Number 2 isn't often the case. The great King Louis XI of France often actually made himself blend in with the crowd, and ended up exploiting the masses because of his blending. As a result of this he taxed them more efficiently, kept their loyalty and fear more efficiently, and brought down many great nobles in the same way. Sometimes it pays to be modest and "lower" ones own station.
