  • St Johns will never be the same untill the change their name back to REDMEN

  • Thanks for posting this Video! I am a huge Hoya Fan! This entire era of Big East ball was so grattifying to witness growning up. Seeing GTOWN Battle all the Big East foes throughout the season. Although, we would fall to Nova the next night we have to appreciate just how tough the Big East was during the 80's .

  • I know that there a lot of white racist. However, John Thompson was a black racist. He chose only black players for the '88 Olympic Team, the first team that lost the gold medal in USA history. There were many white players who were good shooters, but Thompson said he was only looking for athletes to apply his pressure defense. This was just stupid and I never liked John Thompson since.

  • @TheEaglesfanindc probably because a redskin and a redman is a native american thing idk really but thats my guess

  • um!!! why do st johns have hail to the redskins as they fight song ?

  • @sptrfn I agree, was watching back then. Was off with my call on '83 (earliest memories were the '85 team and then as a Knicks fan, King's knee around the time of this very game), but Georgetown definitely would have beaten Nova with Graham's intimidating presence.

  • @TheEsquire212: They would have repeated in 1985 with Michael Graham.

And, if they had Graham in 1986 and 1987, they would have probably went to the Final Four, at least. Those teams were still good without Ewing, although the 1987 team overachieved somewhat.

  • St. John's not having dorms isn't the reason they haven't really been elite since the late 80s, though. Kids generally want to leave New York after doing the whole high school/AAU/5 Star, etc. circuit and want to see what the world has to offer (namely more money and status, as teams outside of the Big East were winning national titles back then -- Duke, UNC, UCLA, UK, etc. Had the refs not cheated in '92, UK would have won one with Mashburn). But no one in the Big East was winning nat'l titles.

  • @Ariamaluum Yeah, like the other guy said, they have 'em now. But while it wasn't a concern for me (supervision), the fact that they didn't have them in '03 when they offered me a full ride is why I didn't want to go there. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone. Mashburn really wanted to get away from anything resembling the Polo Grounds, man, and his moms was going to make sure of it. Being a Harlem cat myself I can understand it during those late 80s.

  • @ErikS1975FreeState They should have won in '82, '84 and '85 IMO.

  • @MrClipper23 Pat wasn't awful.

  • @kgamra1 I agree. I was a fan of the REDMEN, but no, they wanna be PC and the team won't win until they go back to being the REAL ST. JOHN'S.
