there's not much of a difference between the i6 and flat 6, but that 350z sounded more louder to me!!!

There is no difference as to why any even firing six cylinder engine has to sound different from one another. What matters is exhaust system concept. Single-350Z, Dual-911 (though some 911s that have equalization pipes), and something in between, like the BMW.

Exhaust manifold matters: perfectly equal length exhaust runners [header], or not.

Pure dual exhausts on even firing 6 cylinders sounds exactly like two 3 cylinder engines. A single exhaust can sometimes sounds like a diesel [I6] truck.

Air cooled flat 6. You don't have quality flat six tone without being air cooled.
