I think it's confusing to think of it like drinking through a straw. Just breath through your nose and notice where your tongue is. Leave your tounge there and try to breath through your mouth. You shouldn't be able to. Now make your lips in a circle almost like your whistling and try make air go into your mouth without breathing. Your jaw should drop a little and your tongue kind of moves back into you're mouth. You should feel air going into your mouth but not into your lungs.

@ihaveaface178 The passage to the throat is closed off but smoke can drift up your nose if you allow that.
