  • conductor is not really conducting?

  • yeah, if a jazz band is any good they keep time themselves, and know when to come in. the jazz style band is much more kick back, since back when big band jazz was active, most band leaders were busy playing themselves.

i actually went back and saw my high schools band play this year, now that I've graduated, and the conductor conducted a lot, which was painful for me to watch.

  • @djgumpy Ya, my most AMAZING band teacher, would start the band, then walk of stage.

  • @Meagen917 jazz flutists ftw!

  • Conductors playing in the band...sort of like Glen Miller maybe?

  • i think we r gonna play this next year im a flute player :)

  • Fuck Mr.Rodgers

  • oh my God is this Woodland's pioneer?

    haha go Mr. Rogers!

  • why does your conductor play alto in the band? I find it kind of tacky when the teacher is actually in the school band..it implies a weakness in the sax section and that she is actually needed in it.

  • jazz or big band conductors arn't supposed to conduct, they start and stop the song but other than that they just kinda move around the stge making sure everything sounds good and pointing out accents to the band.

  • Conductors of Jazz bands usually don't conduct as a normal concert band would .. but thats just in my experience i could be wrong.. but our conductor sort of walks around casually like this guy and snaps his figures to keep the beat and gives the certain sections their entrances when needed.
