they are protective,ive had them all my life,i had a male called gandolf when i was about 9 and when i took him out for walks everyone would stop to ask about him and he would always stand between me and them and if they got too close he made it crystal clear and people got the message real quick,but he didnt get like that when my dad walked him, so he knew what he was doing,very inteligant very loyal

Actually, they are fantastic for protection. They will defend their family from aggression to the last breath. what they are horrible at is guarding. Unless you have a burglar that can be licked to death!
